Device Configuration Wizard Warning MessagesThe following is a list of the warning messages, with an explanation and recommended action for each. Unable to determine robot type Explanation: The robotic library is not recognized by NetBackup. The robotic library cannot be auto-configured. Recommended Action: Configure the robotic library manually. Drive is standalone or in unknown robot Explanation: The drive or the robot is not returning a serial number making it impossible to determine the drive's location in the robot. The drive may correctly be a standalone drive. Note that some manufacturers do not support serial numbers. Although automatic device configuration will not function optimally, the drive or robot can be operated without a serial number. Recommended Action: Ask the manufacturer for a newer firmware version that returns serial numbers (if available) or operate the drive/robot without serial numbers. Explanation: Either the drive or robot is not returning a serial number. Drives scsi adapter does not support passthru (or passthru path does not exist) Explanation: A drive was found that does not have a SCSI passthru path configured. There are two possible causes for this message:
Recommended Action: Change the drive's adapter, or define a passthru path for the drive. No configuration device file exists Explanation: A device has been detected without the corresponding device file necessary to configure that device. Recommended Action: For information on creating device files, refer to the appropriate chapter for your system type in the NetBackup Media Manager device configuration guide. Unable to determine drive type Explanation: The drive is not recognized by NetBackup. The drive cannot be auto-configured. Recommended Action: Get a new external-drive-mapping.txt file from the VERITAS support web site and then configure the drive manually. Explanation: A drive is discovered in a robot whose type does not support that drive type. For example, a 4mm drive was discovered to be in a TLD robot. Recommended Action: Verify this drive is supported by NetBackup. General auto-detection anomaly This message applies only to NetBackup Enterprise Server. Explanation: There are network communication errors between media servers, or between media servers and the global database host. Recommended Action: Verify network connectivity and retry. Drive is configured in a robot that is not supported by device discovery This message applies only to NetBackup Enterprise Server. Explanation: A robot of type ACS, TLM, LMF, or RSM has been configured. Device discovery is not supported on these robot types. No shared storage option license installed This message applies only to NetBackup Enterprise Server. Explanation: A drive was discovered on multiple hosts and one of those hosts does not have the SSO licensed installed. Recommended Action: Identify which host does not have the SSO license installed and install it there. The drive device does not support serialization Explanation: The drive does not fully support device serialization. Recommended Action: See If You have Devices That Do Not Support Serialization. The robot device does not support serialization Explanation: The robot does not fully support device serialization. Recommended Action: See If You have Devices That Do Not Support Serialization. Unable to determine compression device file Explanation: A drive has been detected without the corresponding device file needed to enable hardware tape compression. Recommended Action: For information on creating device files, refer to the appropriate chapter for your system type in the NetBackup Media Manager device configuration guide. NetBackup does not support this robotic library type as an NDMP device Explanation: NetBackup for NDMP supports the following robot types: ACS, TL8, TLD, and TLH. Recommended Action: You must use a supported robot type with NDMP. Contact VERITAS Software support or the NetBackup release notes for a current list of supported NDMP robot types. |
