YEK KEY:Recovering a Save Set TOPIC:Recovery:Recovering a Save Set Save set recovery allows you to recover an entire Sun StorageTek EBS save set, rather than individual files. This is faster than a file recovery. Consider performing save set recovery under the following circumstances: - If you can no longer browse the files to recover in the Recover dialog because their browse period has expired or their entries have been removed with the Remove Volume command. - A disk crash during the backup produced an incomplete backup, making it impossible to recover the files with Sun StorageTek EBS Recover. - You do not have enough memory to perform a Sun StorageTek EBS Recover file recovery. This causes the recovery to fail or be very slow. To perform a save set recovery: 1. From the Options menu, select Recover Save Set. 2. Look at the browsing containers to determine if the save set you want to recover is listed. 3. If the save set shown in the browse container is not the one you want recovered, select the Sun StorageTek EBS client on which the save set originated (go to Options > Change Client.). 4. If there are multiple versions of the save set, select a specific save set instance from the right browse container. 5. To view the volumes that must be available to complete the recovery, go to Selected > Required Volumes. 6. In the browse containers, mark the save set to recover. You can mark a save set by doing one of the following: -Highlight the entry and click the check box next to the entry -Right-click on the highlighted entry and select Mark for Recover from the pop-up menu. -Highlight the entry and choose Selected > Mark for Recover from the main menu. 7. Click Start. The Recover Options dialog opens. To recover the save set to a non-default location, or to specify how name conflicts are resolved during the recovery, see Recover Options. Once you click OK in the Recover Options dialog, the Recovery starts and the Recover Status dialog opens. For information about monitoring the recovery, see Recover Status. YEK KEY:Viewing File Versions TOPIC:Recovery:Viewing File Versions When you first launch Sun StorageTek EBS Recover, the Recover window displays the recoverable directories and files from the most recent backup. The Versions dialog allows you to view a listing of all available versions of a particular volume, directory, or file. Note: The number of available versions depends on how long your administrator retains backups. To view the available versions: 1. Highlight the volume, directory, or file you want to view in the Browse dialog. 2. Go to Selected > Versions. The Versions dialog appears. The Versions dialog is used to view a listing of all available versions of a particular directory or file. This dialog contains the following: - Name - The path and file name of the selected file system object. - Size - The size of the selected file. - Backup Date - The date the selected file was backed up and the time it was last modified. Versions are sorted according to backup time (most recent first). - Volume - The Sun StorageTek EBS backup volume that contains the selected file. If the volume is currently mounted in a device on the Sun StorageTek EBS server, the device name appears after the volume name. - Device - The device (if any) that the file was backed up to. To mark a version of the file, highlight the entry from the list and select the checkbox next to the file. This file name and its path then displays in the File Name field at the top of the dialog. Note: If you marked any objects in the Recover window, the object will also marked in the Versions dialog. You can mark or unmark individual files in this dialog, but you cannot mark or unmark directories. YEK KEY:Searching for Files and Save Sets TOPIC:Recovery:Searching for Files and Save Sets With the Search option, you can search file index entries by name fragment, backup date, and owner. When you first open the Search dialog, a simple search dialog displays allowing you to search by filename fragment. To specify additional search criteria, click the More Options button. Successful results are listed in the Search Results frame. Within this frame, you can mark or unmark multiple files for recovery. Changes to the state will appear in the browsing containers. Save sets are also searchable by name fragment, the backup date, the save set ID and, for archive save sets, annotation fragments. Similar to file index searching, the Search dialog initially displays a search by name fragment. Click the More options button to specify additional search criteria. YEK KEY:Required Volumes TOPIC:Recovery:Required Volumes Before starting a recovery, you can view a listing of the volumes that must be mounted on the Sun StorageTek EBS server in order to complete the operation. To view the required volumes: 1. Go to Selected > Required Volumes. The Required Volumes dialog appears, displaying a list of the volumes that must be mounted. If a volume is already mounted, the device name is shown after the volume name. If a required volume is not mounted, your administrator will be prompted to mount it once you start the recovery. YEK KEY:Recover Options TOPIC:Recovery:Recover Options The Recover Options dialog displays when you click the Start button from the Recover window (or choose File > Start.). From here, you can set options to specify where recovered files will be located, and how filename conflicts will be resolved. Note: If you do not set recover options, files are recovered to their original location, using their original filenames. If a filename conflict occurs, you are prompted for instructions on how to resolve it. Setting recover options can eliminate prompting during the recovery. To set recover options: 1. To recover files to a location other than the original location on the client computer, enter the path (for example, /tmp/recovered_files) in the Relocate files text field, or click Browse and select the path.. 2. To specify how filename conflicts will be resolved, select one of the following: - Rename Recovered File - Click to automatically rename the file. Typically, the new name is the original name suffixed with an .R. - Discard Recovered File - Click to not recover a file when a naming conflict occurs. These files will then be excluded from the recovery. - Replace local file - Click to replace a file on the local disk with the recovered version. - Prompt me at every file conflict - Check this box if you always want to be notified to resolve conflicts when Sun StorageTek EBS tries to recover files with the same name as files on your disk. 3. If you want the recovery to be stopped when an error occurs, check the box in the Error Handling section of this dialog. You will be notified in the Recover Status dialog if an error occurs. 4. If there are encrypted files being recovered, you may want to specify a pass phrase. By doing so, if any files are encrypted, you are prompted for the pass phrase during the recovery. Select an existing pass phrase from the list, or type in a new phrase in the Encryption Pass Phrase field and click Add. To delete a pass phrase, click Remove. 5. If you want to perform a directed recovery, specify the destination client in the Directed Recover section of this dialog. Directed recovery allows you to remotely recover files that were backed up from one client computer (the source client), and direct them to another (the client destination specified here). In the Directed Recover field, specify the client computer to receive the files by clicking Browse and selecting the destination. This does not have to be the same as the source client. 6. If you are recovering a save set, the Recover Options dialog also contains a Recover Paths section. Recover Paths allows you to recover individual paths within a save set. Notes: - Directed recovery is a restricted Sun StorageTek EBS function, usually performed by a Sun StorageTek EBS administrator. For information about directed recovery access requirements, refer to the Sun StorageTek EBS Administration Guide. - Directed recover of save sets is not supported by Sun StorageTek EBS. - Encrypted files cannot be recovered using directed recovery. 7. Click OK. The recover begins and the Recover Command dialog displays. YEK KEY:NDMP Recover Options TOPIC:Recovery:NDMP Recover Options The Recover Options dialog displays when you click the Start button from the Recover window (or choose File > Start.). From here, you can set options to specify where recovered files will be located, and how filename conflicts will be resolved. Note: If you do not set recover options, files are recovered to their original location, using their original filenames. NDMP recovers are destructive. Sun StorageTek EBS will overwrite any files when a file conflict occurs. To set recover options: 1. To recover files to a location other than the original location on the client computer, enter the path (for example, /vol/vol1/recover_files) in the Relocate files text field. 2. 3. If you are recovering an NDMP save set, the Recover Options dialog also contains an option to recover to a raw device. To do so, enter the raw device path in the Raw Device text field. 4. If you are recovering an NDMP save set, the Recover Options dialog also contains a Recover Paths section. 5. Click OK. The recover begins and the Recover Command dialog displays. YEK KEY:Recover Status TOPIC:Recovery:Recover Status The Recover Command dialog allows you to monitor the progress of the recovery. A command output indicates when the recovery is complete, or notifies you if there is a problem. If the recovery does not begin in a reasonable amount of time (less than 15 minutes), the required backup or archive volume might not be mounted on the Sun StorageTek EBS server. Contact your administrator for assistance. The time required to complete the recovery depends on a number of factors: - Availability of the backup volume containing your files - Amount of data being recovered - Network traffic - Sun StorageTek EBS server load - Device speed and tape positioning If any files are encrypted, you are prompted for the pass phrase during the recovery. This is the pass phrase that you specified in the Recover Options dialog. You must enter your pass phrase before the recovery can proceed. If a filename conflict occurs during recovery and you specified to be prompted whenever a conflict occurs, the Naming Conflict dialog appears. You can then select one of the following options before resuming the recovery: - To rename the recovered file (so it will not overwrite the local file), select Rename Recovered File and enter a new filename, or accept the default name. - To exclude the file from the recovery, select Discard Recovered File. - To allow the recovered file to overwrite the local file, select Replace local file. -To cancel the entire recovery operation, select Cancel. If an error occurs during recovery, that error will be displayed in the Status dialog. If you selected under Recover Options to stop a recovery if an error occurs, you will be notified of the error in the Status Dialog and that the recovery will be stopped. YEK
