Restore True Image Backups Menu The Restore True Image Backups menu is used to list and restore directories that were backed up by a NetBackup scheduled full or incremental backup that had "Collect TIR Info" set to yes (TIR is True Image Recovery). Individual files do not appear and cannot be selected because true image restores are intended only for restoring entire directories. To list or select individual files in a true image restore backup or range of backups, use the Restore Backups menu. A true image restore will restore files that existed in the directory at the time of the incremental backup. Files that did not exist at the time of the incremental backup will not be restored. Note: If NetBackup cannot find any directories, check your range of dates, path, and directory depth. If these settings are correct and no directories are found, check with the administrator on the master server to see if the NetBackup policy that is backing up your files and directories is configured to collect true image restore information. The top of the screen contains the following: Search Path The current directory, where search operations will begin. Start Date End Date The beginning and end dates used in the search. NetBackup will search for archive backups that were made between and including these dates. The default Start Date is the time of the last scheduled full backup of the policy. Use the default unless you are restoring a version that existed before the latest full backup. The default End Date is the current date. If necessary, change this value to the reflect the date that you want to recover. When you start the menu interface, the Start Date is set to 01/01/70 00:00:00 for backups and archives and the End Date is set to 23:59:59 of the current day. Files Selected The number of items currently selected to be restored. Directory Depth Indicates how many levels of directories and files are displayed in the search screen. Display Mode The format used in the display. Brief shows only file names, Verbose shows file names and attributes. Master Server The name of the NetBackup server that will process the restore request. Source Client The name of the client machine whose backups should be searched. You have to be the administrator on the NetBackup server or you have to be permitted by the NetBackup administrator to specify a value other than the current client name. Destination Client The name of the client machine to which the files will be restored. This cannot be changed unless your are the administrator on the NetBackup server. Policy Type The type of policy. You can restore only to the same policy type used in the backup. Keyword Phrase A word or phrase used to search for the backup. When you restore files, you can search for files to restore by keyword phrase. Menu options: s) Select Files and Directories... Displays the selection screen, which lets you browse the filesystem to select items to restore. Directories that match the search path and were backed up between the start and end dates are displayed. The number of levels of directories displayed is limited by the Directory Depth setting. For a true image restore, the list contains only the directories from scheduled full and incremental backups. Files do not appear, nor do the results of user-directed backups or archives. The selection arrow pointer (->) points to items in the list; use the option keys shown at the bottom of the screen to move the pointer and select items. The options are: Zoom (I)n Changes to the directory indicated; that directory will become the current path and its files and directories will be displayed. (Z)oom Out Changes the current path to the parent directory. (S)elect Adds the indicated item to the selection list; after selecting, an asterisk (*) will mark the item. If the item is selected already, it will be removed from the selection list. (B)ack Displays the previous screen of information. (F)wd Displays the next screen of information. (U)p Moves the pointer up one item in the list. (D)n Moves the pointer down one item in the list. (L)eft Shifts the display to the left. (R)ight Shifts the display to the right. (O)k Exits and returns to the menu. To refresh the screen, press Ctrl+r. e) View/Delete Selected Files... Displays the selection edit screen, which lets you add and remove files and directories from the selection list. The selection arrow pointer (->) points to items in the list; use the option keys shown at the bottom of the screen to move the pointer and select items. The options are: Un(S)elect Removes the indicated item from the selection list. (C)lear Removes all items from the selection list. To refresh the screen, press Ctrl+r. i) Initiate Restore Initiates a restore of the selections. Depending on your selections for restore, some or all of the following options may appear: * To overwrite files if they exist, select y; select n if you do not want the backed up file to replace the existing file. * To restore directories without crossing mount points, answer y to the "Restore directories without crossing mount points" prompt. * To write status messages to a progress log, answer y to the "Use a progress log?" message and then press Enter to accept the default in parentheses or type a new path and press Enter. * If you changed the destination path, the "Use destination path substitution?" prompt appears. Type y to use the destination path previously entered or type n to ignore the destination path entered. * If there are links in the path you are searching, NetBackup prompts you to specify whether you want to resolve the links so the paths point to the actual files or directories. To resolve the links, answer y to the "Rename hard links relative to the destination path prompt. If you do not want to resolve links, answer n. NetBackup does not resolve links if you use wildcard characters in the search directory path. Note: If you are restoring system files to a disk other than the current system disk and plan to use the other disk as the system disk with the original file paths when the restore is completed, Symantec recommends that you specify y (yes) when prompted to rename hard links and n (no) when prompted to rename soft links. * To rename soft links, answer y to the "Rename soft links relative to the destination path prompt; otherwise, type n. x) Change Display Mode to Verbose Changes the mode of the display in the search screen. Brief shows only file names. Verbose mode shows the standard UNIX file permissions and also uses m in the file type column to show files migrated by Veritas Storage Migrator for UNIX or Veritas Data Lifecycle Manager. l) List TIR Backup Images... Displays a list of the TIR backup images for the client that occurred between the Start Date and End Date. q) Quit Menu Returns to the main menu. h) Help Displays help. p) Change Search Path... Changes the path used to search for TIR directories in the NetBackup database. UNIX wildcards are allowed in the path for queries to the NetBackup database. To find a specific file, type its complete pathname at the prompt. d) Change Date Range... Changes the Start Date and End Date. These dates are used to search the NetBackup database for files to restore. c) Change Directory Depth... Changes the Directory Depth. Directory Depth determines how many levels of directories and files below the current Search Path will be displayed in the search screen. m) Change Master Server... Changes the NetBackup server that processes the restore request. b) Change Source Client... Changes the client whose backups should be searched. t) Change Destination Client... Changes the client to which backups will be restored. This option is available only to the NetBackup administrator. a) Change Destination Path... Changes the restore from and restore to paths. During restores, files whose pathnames start with the first path will have that portion of their name substituted with the second path. k) Change Keyword Phrase Changes the keyword by which to search for backups.
